Introduction
If you’re creative, love working with people, and have a passion for make-up, this program is the perfect way to start your career in the beauty industry. The Make-Up VET DSS program gives you hands-on experience with the tools, techniques, and trends used by professional make-up artists.
Learn how to apply make-up for a range of contexts while also developing retail and customer service skills essential to the industry. You’ll gain confidence working with clients and learn how to present yourself professionally in a fast-paced, creative environment.
This program is ideal for students looking to build a strong foundation in make-up services and prepare for further training or entry-level roles in the beauty industry.
As this is a one-year program, many students choose to pursue the one-year hairdressing program first to gain experience in both the hair and beauty industries. See VCE contribution for more details.

Essential requirements
Essential requirements for the make-up and beauty industry
To undertake hands-on learning in this program, it's important to understand the inherent requirements this sector and be aware you may be required to:
- Have close and physical contact with a client
- Be able to undertake physical work involving lifting, standing for long periods, or cardio activity
Entrance requirements & pre-requisites
- You must be enrolled in a secondary school course.
Partial completion
This course is partial completion only. Upon completion of the program, you will receive a Statement of Attainment listing the successful units completed. You may be able to use the Statement of Attainment to receive credit towards a full qualification, reducing the time and cost of further study.

VCE contribution
VCE Vocational Major
Students undertaking this VET DSS program through the VCE Vocational Major stream will need to complete a minimum of 180 nominal hours of a VET DSS program over a 2-year period.
Credit to ATAR score - make-up & hair programs
Students undertaking this VET DSS program are eligible for credit of up to two VCE VET units on their VCE Statement of Results: two units at Unit 1-2 level. If students have chosen to complete the hairdressing VET DSS program first, they may be eligible for credit of up to 4 VCE VET units on their VCE Statement of Results: two units at Unit 1-2 level and a Unit 3-4 sequence. Students may be entitled to 10% increment towards their VCE. You will only be eligible to obtain the units 1-4 sequence if the hairdressing program is completed before the make-up VET DSS program. Contact your school for more information.

- Enrol - once your school approves your VET DSS application, you will be enrolled in the qualification at SWTAFE.
